India After Independence
India gained independence on 15 August 1947, ending British rule. However, independence also brought several challenges. The country faced partition, refugee crisis, integration of princely states, framing of the Constitution, and reorganization of states.
India had to rebuild its political, social, and economic systems while maintaining unity and national integration. This chapter explains the major developments that took place after independence and the efforts made to build a united India.
Partition of India and Its Consequences
India’s independence was accompanied by the partition of the country into India and Pakistan.
The Mountbatten Report led to the creation of two independent nations – India and Pakistan.
Consequences of Partition:
- Large-scale migration of people
- Communal violence
